For travellers from the UK, most arrangements run on the continent where the value beats anything close to home: German thermal baths in Baden-Baden, Dutch wellness resorts reachable from Amsterdam Schiphol in an hour, and Belgian Ardennes spas a short train ride from Brussels.
The base is always a hotel night with breakfast and entry to a thermal bath or sauna area. On some packages the hotel sits on the resort grounds, on others it's a short walk. Each product page shows whether bathrobe, towels and slippers are included, whether a treatment (massage, facial) is part of the package or bookable on site, and whether dinner counts as half board. These elements vary by date and resort.
Germany: Friedrichsbad Baden-Baden, Therme Erding near Munich, Bali Therme Bad Oeynhausen, the Black Forest spa hotels. Belgium: Spa-Francorchamps in the Ardennes, accessible from Brussels in under two hours. Netherlands: Veluwse Bron, Thermen Holiday, Spawell, Zwaluwhoeve, accessible from Schiphol in around an hour. Austria: a small selection of alpine spa hotels in Tyrol. For British travellers, the Dutch resorts tend to be the easiest addition to an Amsterdam city break; the German thermal baths suit those flying to Frankfurt or Düsseldorf for a long weekend.
For Dutch resorts: fly Schiphol then rental car or train, total journey of around five hours from Manchester, Birmingham or London. For German thermal baths near Baden-Baden: Eurostar to Brussels, ICE to Karlsruhe, around six hours. For Belgian Ardennes: Eurostar to Brussels in two hours, then train or hire car. For the alpine spa hotels in Austria: fly Innsbruck or Munich. Parking at the hotel is included in most arrangements, which matters once you've rented a car at the airport. Weekday breaks run noticeably cheaper. A package at 159 euros on Saturday often sits at 119 on Tuesday, a fifth to a quarter less.
