Two icons a five-minute walk apart. The Reichstag dome by Norman Foster is a striking piece of architecture and offers views across the entire government quarter. Go early in the day, when the whole of Pariser Platz is still quiet.
1.3 km of murals on the longest surviving stretch of the Berlin Wall. Walk from Ostbahnhof to Warschauer Straße. The famous Fraternal Kiss is about halfway along. Early in the morning it feels more personal, later in the day it gets busy.
A Currywurst stand since 1930, now in a glass kiosk under the S-Bahn at Eberswalder Straße. The original curry sauce was, according to the city, invented right here. Served on a little paper tray and eaten standing on the street, exactly as it should be.

ICE from Utrecht and booked the Berlin package with Icebar. Cape on, drink in hand, something different to do alone. East Side Gallery walk after. City parking pricier than expected, car stays home next time. Doing this again.

Arrived Tuesday, fewer crowds. The Icebar was part of the package and quiet on a Tuesday evening, plenty of time for photos without a queue. East Side Gallery during the day. TV remote half-worked, small thing. Good pick for a tidy city break.

Berlin package for the four of us, Icebar plus drink included. Capes on, photos taken, picked three frozen cocktails. Brandenburg Gate at night after. Boros Bunker for the art the next day. Mattress creaked a bit. Doing it again next year.

Booked the Berlin package for the family, the kids (9 and 12) were stunned by the Icebar (-10 degrees, capes provided). Drink included for us two, kids got soft drinks. Family room with bunk bed helped. East Side Gallery walk during the day. Window let in street noise. Will come back.

Booked the Berlin package with Icebar entry and a free drink included. We got capes at the door, -10 inside, laughing at each other's breath. Brandenburg Gate at night after. Lift jolted on stops, otherwise smooth.

A central park of 210 hectares, three times the size of a typical city park. Climbing the Siegessäule gives you views in every direction. On Sundays the whole park fills with Berliners firing up their barbecues, so grab a beer and join in.
Every Sunday from late morning, with karaoke shows in the afternoon on the terraces of the old stadium. The best place to see Berlin on a Sunday as it really is. Do not dress too smartly, it really would not fit in here.
Five world-class museums on a single island in the Spree. If you only pick one: the Pergamon Museum (closed until 2027 for renovation) or the Neues Museum for the bust of Nefertiti. One morning per museum is enough to take in the highlights.
