Op een uur rijden van Berlijn, in het Brandenburgse Krausnick, doemt opeens een gigantische hal op tussen de dennenbossen. Wat ooit een loods voor luchtschepen was, herbergt nu een complete tropische wereld waar het altijd warm en vochtig is, ongeacht het seizoen buiten.
Binnen waan je je duizenden kilometers verderop: een echt regenwoud met meer dan vijftigduizend planten, lagunes met fijn zand en een lucht die naar bloemen en chloor ruikt. Buiten kan het sneeuwen of stormen, maar onder de koepel blijft het rond de zesentwintig graden.
's Avonds, als de dagjesmensen vertrokken zijn, wordt het stil rond de lagune en hangt er een loom, zwoel sfeertje. Dan voelt het tropische eiland echt van jou, met het warme water nog op temperatuur en de palmen zacht verlicht boven je hoofd.

First weekend of January, everyone tired of the weather. Redeemed vouchers together with our best friends. Two separate rooms but booked at the same time. Saturday all afternoon in the lagoon, dinner together in the evening. The waitstaff struggled to seat us at one table because we'd booked separately, sorted within a quarter of an hour. Worked against the January slump.
Family with kids (6 and 9) · 2 nights
Booked a week before Christmas to dodge the crowds. The kids forgot it was winter outside, three afternoons at the lagoon. Saturday evening dancer show was better than expected. Breakfast was limited in choice, mostly bread and biscuits. Otherwise a recommendation for the festive season.
Partner · 2 nights
Voucher expired in December, redeemed quickly. Tuesday to Thursday, extremely quiet. We were in the outdoor pool at 10am with nobody else around. Sauna village aufguss at 4pm, five guests. Restaurant half empty on Wednesday evening, fast service. Bed was on the firm side, but we're not used to that at home either.
Three girlfriends · 2 nights
Rain and grey outside, 25 degrees and palms inside, the contrast was the whole point. Voucher covered exactly this package. Bagged three loungers by the lagoon and spent half a day there. Night swim at 10pm nearly empty. Hotel parking was far from the main entrance, short walk in the rain.
Partner · 1 night
Package with overnight. No kids, so we headed for the sauna village. At the back of the hangar, completely different vibe from the lagoon. Aufguss at 6pm, then dinner in the tropical restaurant. One wall lamp wouldn't turn off, reception sorted it after an hour. We'll do it again.
Family with kids (7 and 10) · 2 nights
Redeemed the Tropical Island voucher as a single package. The paradise lagoon is huge under that old Zeppelin hangar, kids didn't know where to look first. The Tropino kids' room with the mosquito-net look was a hit. Evening pool still warm at 9pm. Plenty of parking. Recommended for young families.
