Booked the Brussels package as a gift to each other, beer hunt adventure was in the package. Then Manneken Pis (small, as everyone says). Pillows a touch soft. A nice moment to mark.

Capital of Europe, four official languages, and the best chips on the continent. An easy hop across by train or road, and in a way more grown-up than Bruges or Ghent.
The nine spheres, built for the 1958 World's Fair, are still standing. Three of the six open spheres are laid out as a museum, with retro design from the Vespa to Tupperware. Noticeably quieter midweek than at the weekend.
On the Rue de l'Étuve. Not the best chocolate in Brussels, but the most complete story from bean to truffle. Allow a couple of hours. Afterwards, for the real flavour, carry on to Pierre Marcolini three streets along.
Since 1847 the oldest covered shopping arcade in Europe, predating Milan. Glass roof, marble, tailors with luxury coat shops. Stroll through in a quarter of an hour or duck into a chocolatier for a macaron with sherry.

A quarter full of chocolatiers (Wittamer, Marcolini, Neuhaus within a single street), antique dealers and little cafes. On Saturday and Sunday morning there is a lively antiques and book market. An atmospheric terrace for a coffee in between the wandering.
On the Place Royale. Three floors with the largest Magritte collection in the world, including letters and films from his studio. Allow a couple of hours. Afterwards have lunch in Brasserie Horta, an Art Nouveau building on the same street.
On the little Rue des Bouchers, record holder with 2,500 beers on the menu. A taster board of four glasses gives you a fine cross-section. Busy, far from quiet, but impossible to imitate. The square around it is full of pubs for the afterparty.
