What to do in Maastricht

The Vrijthof and St Servatius Basilica
The central square, loved for its terraces and the two churches standing side by side. The Servatius Basilica has a treasury of medieval relics well worth seeing. On summer evenings, live music often drifts across the square.
The Sint-Pietersberg and the marl caves
A former marl quarry with thirty kilometres of tunnels, which can only be visited with a guide. Inside it is always eleven degrees, so bring a jumper. Combine it with a walk over the hill, as the view across the Jeker valley is lovely.
Boekhandel Dominicanen
A Gothic church from 1294, a bookshop since 2007. Steel shelving climbs up along the old vaults. It is regularly voted one of the most beautiful bookshops in the world. At the back there is a coffee bar set into the old altar, free to wander into.

Solo Maastricht, decent package
Booked the Maastricht package, all sorted in one go. Drove down, pub crawl was included, nice way to meet people while travelling alone. Then Saint Servatius Bridge. The bathroom tap dripped. Went well, I'll do this more often.

Midweek Maastricht, lovely and quiet
Maastricht package with pub crawl, went on a Tuesday, nicely quiet. The crawl was a small, friendly group, included in the package. During the day we walked up to Sint-Pietersberg. Breakfast finished too early. Recommended if you want an organised weekend without the crowds.

Four of us booked the Maastricht package with pub crawl, all sorted in one go, tour was included. Guide was upbeat, took us to nice spots. During the day we visited the Bonnefantenmuseum. The heating wouldn't turn down. We'll be back next year.

Booked the Maastricht package with pub crawl, daytime exploring with the kids (9 and 12), one evening we did the pub crawl that came with the package. Saint Servatius Bridge, terraces, Bonnefantenmuseum. Family room with bunk bed was top. WiFi cut out in the room. We'll be back for sure.

Booked the Maastricht package with pub crawl, participation was included, nice not having to hunt for anything. The tour through the Stokstraat quarter was fun. Hotel well placed, Vrijthof round the corner for a terrace. The blind didn't fully close. Recommended for a complete weekend break.
